Coffee, Perfume and Candles all have something in common……
MAGIC
What is Magic?? A word with so much energy infused within it. A word that maybe we do not associate with something tangible like Coffee, or Perfume or candles. When I looked up this word, I read something to the effect of… The infusion of intention, belief, and action. It is this – the endless mystery of magic that exists within the paradoxical nature of everything. When we consider the idea of Magic, we automatically go to a place of an alchemical reaction. Alchemy, a seemingly magical process of transformation, creation, or combination. The turning of lead into gold, as they did in the 15th century.
And above all, watch with glittering eyes the whole world around you because the greatest secrets are always hidden in the most unlikely places. Those who don’t believe in magic will never find it. Do you believe in Magic?
– Roald Dahl
But really, what is Magic?
To some Magic is perhaps something supernatural or requiring an invocation or the conjuring up a spell. To others, magic is a sort of enchantment…or what I would like to call…a sparkle. Magic is finding the attraction and interest in something that is of curiosity and holds a special quality.
To find the Magic in the mundane, is a gift that the universe gives to us in abundance.
The Mundane. The Commonplace…the day to day happenings that we take for granted… That is where we will find the most magical occurrences of all. The phenomena of finding and appreciating the magic in the mundane is our birthright…because abundance and joy is our birthright.
Yet the magic that we live with on a day to day basis is one that we take for granted. Or maybe we don’t see… even though it is right before our eyes.
How about the magic of being able to breathe without thinking about the complex process that is entailed just to be able to survive every moment? And the beauty of the flame of a candle as it dances around in the air, glowing and transforming as it creates the most magnificent light.
We are living proof that magic exists, and it is all around us. We are so trusting of the magic that has surrounded our every day that we forget to acknowledge it.
Two days ago I was asked…. “Lisa, what three things can you not live without?” This was asked of me by my friend who is creating the website for my newest company called Lisa Santine. And my friend proceeded to show me the most beautiful images which correlated with what she suspected those three things were: Silence, Balance, Light. I was overwhelmed with honor that she believed I was so noble as to feel that these are of the highest importance in my life…and I cannot live without them.
I was honored that she saw me that way. Three beautiful, arcane, and philosophical concepts. And she thought of me. Well, I will be honest and tell you, I was going to go along with it…but I had to stop her and quickly, with no hesitation, I blurted out…
Actually, the three things I cannot live without are:
Coffee, perfume, and candles…in that order
Did I just SAY THAT? Did I just tell my friend, who believes that I am noble and virtuous…principled and maybe even honorable…that the three things on the top of my list are things I can buy at the dollar store? And how come family and health, or even money was not on that list? What kind of person am I?
I went back to my childhood…when I used to ask my mom if there would be coffee in heaven. Yes, I was that girl who used to sneak her coffee at the age of 10. I would put it in my cereal, or in a solid cup and pretend I am drinking juice or something that is not coffee. Apparently, I had a checklist of things that made me happy, and it started at the age of 10. And I narrowed it down to my three top items…and these have been my 3 items for the past XX years. (Insert any number you would like to insert..under 30).
How is it that the most banal, the most boring, trivial, maybe even superfluous things are the things bring me the most joy?
Because there is beauty in the every day. Because the universe has provided for us the these trite things in abundance, as it is the details that make up the beautiful parts of our human lives.
If we live each day with gratitude for the beauty that surrounds us, then we have the power to create the magical existence that is LIFE. This we can do, despite our obstacles, despite the losses and sorrows we may feel. Because even in that, there is magic.
The universe has a way of putting in front of us what we may need to see at that moment. And if we open our hearts to the magic of that possibility, then we can move in an upward direction with the intention that we have the power to create our realities. Because it is our reality that is the most magical of all.
Magic is the reason and the way we wake up every morning to be humans on this magnificent planet. The sounds of the birds as they sing in the sky. The magic of the sunset and the painting it creates as it sets into the horizon…for all of us to witness daily. The smell of that early morning pot of coffee, the flickering of the flame on the candle. These are the things we delight in. These are the mundane and magical details that we savor and bring color into our lives.
So, to tell my friend that the things I love most in my life are coffee, perfume and candles is the most magical part of our existence. It is the beauty of the banal. The magic of the mundane. The seemingly meaningless things that bring forward the meaning and the will to wake up in the morning and enjoy the beauty of life. The twists and the turns we are presented with are even more meaningful with the enchanting and prosaic things that bring us joy.
Enjoy the details of the ordinary. Relish in them and take your time experiencing them. What a glorious moment for us to be humans. A time that we chose to be present on this planet.
he magic of the mundane is not our purpose in life…it is the little details that make our purpose more fascinating. It is the spice that enhances our purpose. And with this spice..move forward and find your purpose. Live your purpose. Because that is really the reason why we are here. And while I am living my purpose, my days are filled with coffee, perfume and candles.
Delight in the ordinary and live your magic.
With love, truth and joy…
